With this award you will not only motivate them to do their job even better, but you will make sure that they stick with you and your company for many years to come.
I believe that no other employee award is appreciated more than Service Anniversary Awards.
The “years of service awards”, gifts and recognition will show your employees that you recognize their years of dedicated service, and the contributions they have made. And most importantly, that small piece of paper, the certificate, will show them that you truly care!
9. Home Time Safety Award
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), safety should be number one priority. So, the importance of safety should not be underestimated.
That is why for, the home time safety award exists. To award all the drivers with outstanding safety records and performance, with some well deserved home time.
You should definitely try to incentivize company truck drivers by giving them this award.
When you run a trucking company, the last think you want to deal with is the safety records bed scores. You have full plate work on a daily bases and have to comply with million rules and regulations from government agencies like:
- US Department of Transportation (DOT);
- Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration (FMCSA);
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA);
- United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA);
- United States Department of Labor (DOL);
- Federal Highway Administration.
So, with other words, a serious workplace injury or worst case scenario of fatal outcome, can very much impact your company credibility and compromise your safety ratings. Or, even worse, it can ruin your business for life.
If a worker is injured on the job, or someone else is injured by your driver, it costs the company in lost work time. And in our industry “Time is money”!
Furthermore you might get incensement in health insurance rates and truck insurance costs too; workers’ compensation premiums and possible litigation are possible too.
So that is why, you should incentivize company truck drivers when they maintain good safety records. They should always be rewarded with home time; that is the least you can do to show them appreciation for watching your back!
10. Maintain a Positive Communication
This goes without saying, but you can always incentivize company truck drivers by maintaining a solid, healthy and positive communication.
Among everything else, increased communication between you as an owner and the company drivers can help keep professional objectives and goals clear. Furthermore it can eliminate potential workplace conflicts from getting out of hand.
When expectations and issues are regularly discussed by managers and drivers, the team will have better understanding of the status of the work relationship.
So you should try to:
- Hold regular staff meetings(At least ones quarterly);
- Conduct one-on-one meetings every time you can;
- Have an open-door policy (An “open-door policy” is when the employee has an open, standing invitation at any time to approach the manager/owner with questions, concerns and complaints they might have).
- Send a regular update memo (Distributing a daily or weekly memo about deadlines, projects and announcements, keeps drivers and managers on the same page. Since your drivers are on the road most of the time, the best way to do it is by sending them weekly e-mail memo).
11. Always be Honest Even in the Darkest Hours
You might not think honesty as being a way to incentivize company truck drivers. But actually it is the best way! Seriously, honestly is the best policy. Obviously there might be reason for not telling every single solitary little detail, but they have right to know.
Don’t treat your staff like mushrooms by keeping them in the dark and feeding them crap. You might be surprised just what they can do to help improve the situation as apposed the becoming disgruntled.
Just think about all the time you were the little mushroom on the north side of the tree while the other side was getting all the light and attention.
People hate being taken advantage of. The hate being treated like they don’t matter. And if you aren’t open with them they will sense that something isn’t right.
It is human nature to fill in the blanks when information is missing. So when it comes to ways to incentivize company truck drivers, remember don’t treat them like manure.
Don’t expect them to give and you take, but never give back. The more one sided they think a thing is, the more it will be.

12. Organize Team Building Events
Team building events are known to be one of the best ways to bring employees together.
They are incredibly powerful way to increase your workforce’s camaraderie, improve levels of communication and cooperation and in the same time develop more productive relationships.
If you want to incentivize company truck drivers, then organizing frequent team building events is one way of doing it!
However, you have to ensure that your team building event is effective and fun in same time, so plan it carefully! Otherwise, you will end up turning it into one of those boring, unproductive meet ups that people hate.
The nature of the trucking business is different from the traditional office culture, so let me tell you right front, you will have hard time bringing your truck drivers all together for a team building!
If you have only few truck drivers is double, but if the number is bigger, then good luck to you!
